We welcomed David and Elizabeth Smith to our March Meeting. They live at Scape Lodge on Scapegoat Hill, Slaithewaite, and gave us a wonderful talk about how they have created a superb garden on a challenging site. They are now Members of the National Garden Scheme, a charity which looks for remarkable gardens and helps their owners open them to the public. Any money for entrance fees, refreshments or plant sales go to the charity, which in turn supports other related charities such as the Apprentice Gardeners Scheme. The couple's accompanying slides showed the beautiful array of plants and flowers in different parts of the garden and in the different seasons.

We then had a very pleasant walk on a lovely afternoon, taking in the park, the Pleasure Grounds and a trip up to Royds Edge to see the IItalian POW stone. Kate and Joan relived their childhood and we welcomed Mercury back home!
